This is not a pity post

Well the call I have expected for the last 4 months has finally come.
My stepdad died last night. He was diagnosed a little over a year ago.
He decided then that he was going to refuse treatment. ( This was his second
round with throat cancer ) We all agreed with his decision. He died at home
and with as much peace as possible.
This releases my mom from 5 years of constant care taking. It leaves us with sadness,
but a huge sense of relief. And a surprising amount of comfort.
I can only hope that when I am faced with that kind of decision I can cope with it
half as much grace as Charlie did .

*hugs you tight* I'm so sorry for you all, but glad he went in his own way, at home and with family at his side. Hug your mom for me. Caring for a terminal patient is hard and only gets harder when it's a loved one. Bless your mom for helping ease his final days.
