The request was a Braca thought or character piece.
I couldn't figure out our to work in all the prop requests,
but the Command Carrier did fit in nicely. ; )
I hope that it pleases you.
I had fun with this, Thank you
neuralclone
for the assignment and the ficathon.
He had always known that he belonged. Miklo Braca took to the Peacekeeper system from birth. As a young child the sight of the cots in his crèche lined up in the mandated rows gave him a powerful sense of comfort. The repetition and regularity of lessons, training and meals pleased him. He felt his life was complete.
Like most children, he assumed that the larger universe was as ordered and uniform as his own. Having spent all his hours on a Command Carrier he knew only it’s ways . It’s crimson and black passage ways enclosed his every thought and action. It's traditions and rules provided him a step by step guide to everything in life . And he knew exactly where he fit. So it was with some dismay that he discovered , at the tender age of 10 cycles, that other worlds did not run true to the PK plan.
The members of his junior unit knew that something was not as usual when they were marched to a landing bay early one day. The solemn looks on their young faces gave way to curious glances. As they formed in ranks, Milko felt excitement and a little fear. A new instructor appeared before them with startling information. The next field exercise would be held on a nearby planet. He did not know then that this would be his last day of absolute belief in the the Peackeepers.
His unit was sent planet side at regular intervals from then on. These excursions soon began to lose their appeal for him though . Because each time he left the contained world of the Carrier he learned more things that contradicted the tidy rules he had been taught there. The casual cruelty and disregard that his leaders displayed towards all the planet’s inhabitants shocked the young soldier. And worse , each society and species he saw presented a further challenge to his faith . They were not Peacekeepers , yet they seemed to work , and live just as successfully as if they were. He felt an illicit desire to stay and learn more about these beings. He also knew that this was a feeling that he should keep to himself. The risk of being branded as contaminated was far too high.
As the years passed , the compulsion did not fade. He began to seek out snippets of banned information. He became well versed in the differences between the “official” histories and actual events. He used the pragmatism that this knowledge gave him to advance rapidly in the ranks. He became everyone’s confidant but no one’s ally. The out ward self he presented no longer reflected his inner feelings. It was becoming more and more difficult to keep up the appearance of unquestioning loyalty.
But then he encountered Scorpius. At their first meeting he felt his fate click into place. Here was someone who by his very existence proved that Peace keepers did not hold all the answers. The hybrid should not , by Peacekeepers laws, have even be allowed to live. But the fierce intelligence and strength in this scientist immediately drew Braca in . Miklo knew that there was much that he could learn . And , once again he felt that he belonged.
I feel ready now to go back to the
VERY overdue John Angst fic .
Cheers to all.

that I still consider myself a beginner at this.
Words like this give me a huge boost
of confidence.
Feeling just a little giddy here......
