Farscape and nothing else !
Oct. 20th, 2004 12:22 amHere is my opus on the miniseries.
Aeryn !
She was in full kickass and take no names mode. I felt that she would slip
into motherhood seamlessly. She has never known limits and there was no
reason to assume that she should start now. Loved the way
she has picked up the wise cracking skill from a certain human.
The PK back story
It was very cool to learn about the history of the Peacekeepers,
Now we know where the name came from. All those stories that
Aeryn was told about the “glorious “ PK past actually contained a
kernel of truth. I always wanted the PK’s to be something more than
just imperialist bastards. I think I have been seduced by the snappy
uniforms.
Rygel
Damn Sparky did good! He was doing all sorts of very useful stuff for
everyone. But all the while snarking as usual. Loved him muchly here.
And the post partum sobbing was priceless!
Moya
It was riveting to see our beautiful ship looking so fine. They spent lots
of shots just showing her off , thus making me very happy. All the CGI
work was stunning. When the first starburst came I was was squealing
like a little girl.
Scorpius
I DO so love this hybrid. He is the definition of relentless. He will willingly
do the most despicable things to further his agenda. And he always , always
wins. He was in his finest form here. The smirking way he told John
“I abandoned my post” made me laugh so hard. It was classic.
Grayza
Rebecca Riggs is so cool she could freeze the Arctic. She was business
as usual, No explanations and no regrets. EVER. They used her
pregnancy very effectively. I also liked the way that we know nothing
about the baby. Mysteries upon mysteries.
Ankna
Was she styling is her new outfit or what? I was memorizing details furiously. I will
be studying the DVD frame by frame. And she was finally outed as the biggest
badass in the Scarran army . Mercy is not in her vocabulary. Fran just rocked here.
The Production Team
Every frame of this thing was amazing. Every surface , every lighting effect,
every costume was astounding in it’s detail. I can’t imagine the hours they put in
but it showed in every shot . This is a quality of work that just is seldom seen
in mega budget movies and they did it on a shoestring. Just superior work all around.
The Script
They have always messed with our heads, and we have always loved them for it.
The twists , the turns , the shocks , Man it was brutal. But having said that ,
I most enjoyed the way they told a huge sweeping story through tiny little
character moments. Yeah the pace was rapid fire, but the time was taken to
let the actors connect .And that made all the difference to me. You could see
in in their eyes. They were having FUN. And so were we.
And lastly , our hero Chricton
Ben Browder was given a terriffic gift in this role and you can see in his performance
that he relishes it.
He so owns this show .
I cant even begin to say how much I have enjoyed the arc this character
has had. He began as a lost and floundering human with only his wits to protect him.
He ended as a truly heroic figure with the literal powers of the universe.
But they let him stay “human”. When he hits the deck in Pilots den after his big
“suicide’ leap they show him in pain when he gets up.
He bleeds , he cries and he makes the most horrible mistakes.
But he never gives up. He fights , he gets beat down but he drags his ass
back into the fray over and over again. He doesn't have all the answers
but those he does have are the right ones.
So in the end he wins , and once again so do we.
Thanks to everyone involved in in any way in the creation and production
of this show. They do damn fine work and I an very grateful for their efforts.
